Know More About The Fairy Tale Story of Hansel & Gretel

Neglected children, poverty, a house of candy, and an unexpected hero — Hansel and Gretel is a fairy tale full of suspense and wonder. With brave siblings facing hunger, abandonment, and a wicked witch, this story has captivated children for generations.

The Story of the Candy House

Originally published by the Brothers Grimm in 1812, the tale likely dates back much further — with manuscripts from the 14th century referencing candy houses in the woods.

The story begins with a poor woodcutter, his two children, Hansel and Gretel, and their stepmother. Struggling with hunger, the stepmother convinces the woodcutter to abandon the children in the forest. The first time, Hansel uses stones to find their way back. But when they’re sent out again, he only has breadcrumbs — which birds eat, leaving them lost.

Following a bird, they stumble upon a magical house made of candy. Starving, they begin to eat the walls — only to be invited inside by a seemingly kind old woman.

But the woman is a witch, and the candy house is a trap. She locks Hansel in a cage to fatten him up, and forces Gretel to cook. When the witch decides it's time to bake Hansel, Gretel cleverly pushes her into the oven and frees her brother.

The children escape with the witch’s jewels and return home, finding that their stepmother has died. With treasure in hand, they and their father no longer live in poverty.

The Hidden Meaning Behind the Fairy Tale

Though magical on the surface, this story reflects harsh realities of the past. During times of famine, parents may have abandoned children, and folklore suggests even cannibalism was feared. Hansel and Gretel survive through cleverness and courage — inspiring young readers to be resilient in the face of danger.

Gretel's bravery shows that girls, too, can be the heroes. The tale also serves as a warning about trusting strangers and giving in to temptations — like the irresistible candy house.

I have heard that the Story goes back at a old Killing.
The story was, that a very talented Woman baked very good tasting “Lebkuchen”. She sold them and lived good from the Momey. Then, another Baker wanted the receipt from here. He said he will marry here – but only to get the famous receipt.
The Baker woman said No.
So he came to here house which was in the forest. He tortured here but she didnt give him the reciped. So he killed here.
Thats the bloody story behind I heard.

So – Don`be too much craving for money, accpt others success and keep polite an not became agresse only because of money.
